Excellent rendering of moonlight and shadow in stark black-and-white. The darkness in the doorway, with the escapees emerging from the shadows is particularly effective. Well done.
Thank you – moonlight kind of makes it easier to render stuff in black-and-white, in some places at least. I still occasionally hanker for just a biiit of colour, but by now I’ve made my stylistic bed so I have to lie in it. For the rest of this chapter, at least. 🙂

Closer to freedom, at least – they’re not quite out of the woods yet. 😀
If you want to go for realism, snapping someone’s neck like that is pretty difficult, for a variety of reasons. The gnoll took the option that requires a lot less strength. Not really important, and doesn’t detract from the story at all, just bothers me a bit when stuff like that shows up.
