(Slightly) New Look.

After spending most of yesterday beating code with hammers, the Dark Places site has had a bit of a redesign. The visible difference should be fairly slight – shiny new navigation buttons above and below the comic page, some rejigging of sidebars, and that’s about it. There are still a couple of minor layout things to fix, and if you see anything that looks really broken, please do let me know.

Behind the scenes, meanwhile, things have switched from ComicPress/ComicPress Manager to the WebComic & Inkblot. This meant rebuilding the site theme from the ground up, which was somewhat time-consuming because I have a bunch of non-standard layout stuff going on, but ultimately successful. Mostly. I think.

I made the switch because I’d already started using WC&IB for a side-project (to be unveiled soon-ish), and liked the cut of its jib and wanted the two sites to be easily-integrated with one another, should the need arise. There are lots of useful features, and since WebComic is a plugin rather than a theme (it makes a difference) this means that updating WebComic won’t break my site layout.

Which is a lot of blather to explain why things look slightly different, but hopefully of interest to someone. :D

Hey, wow, WebComic & Inkblot look freaking awesome. I may make the switch too.

I’ve had to do a fair bit of customising of the default Inkblot theme to make it look nice, but it’s mostly CSS-wrangling.

The fact that the theme bits are separate from the plugin bits mean that plugin updates don’t totally wreck my site’s appearance, which is very nice indeed. :D
