I admire his courage, but couldn’t he also go inside? Maybe look out from the top of the walls to see if something else is going on. Let them zombies scratch the stone all they want.
Very good atmosphere. I’ve never seen the kid before, and I already feel for him.
As the porter his duty is to guard the gates – and since they’re still hoping for more people to arrive, it’s no good leaving the walking dead to crowd up around the entrance.

I really like that professional soldier’s “I have work to do.” Another serious day at the office.

But yes, there are links between this story and the events of The Tower of Thorns. 😉
Usually I don’t like stories that bounce around in time backwards and forwards – they tend to leave me feeling disconnected and distanced from the plot & charas. But that isn’t happening, it’s more like reading snippets of real history instead.
