Well, at least it’s a small heap. Perfectly managable in a day if your knowledge of horticulture is up to scratch.

… Aled’s pretty fucked, isn’t he?

Seriously, I’ve spent some time comparing pictures of wheat and barley grains and I still have no idea how you tell the difference. Grains is grains is grains.

“…I’ve spent some time comparing pictures of wheat and barley grains…” You’re very dedicated, aren’t you? 🙂

This is the third task, isn’t it? Something should happen soon…

I like to do my research. 😀 Mostly so I don’t get caught out by someone going “You hack, you can’t tell the difference between wheat and barley!”.

Actually I can’t really tell the difference, but I doubt many other people could either. 😀

It’s a good thing she’s making up new tasks instead of telling him to repeat a previous one, because then he’d surely be stewed! (Something for a genre-savvy witch to consider.)

Hahahaha, that is so very true. That said, I don’t know how the woodshed could get un-filled any time soon. The bear packed those trees in pretty tight.

Heading back through the wolf woods to refill the water pots could be more of a challenge, of course.

If we think about this with a bit of logic in hand, what’s going on starts to make sense. The huntsman at the start of this arc is still probably waiting for the boy out there. However, the Huntsman won’t enter the Bog Witch’s territory–we don’t know why, but it doesn’t really matter right now. What matters is what the Bog Witch is doing–each day Aled stays the night, and makes up for this with a new task finished. Since this barley-wheat thing seems pointless, I’m getting the feeling she’s running out of things to have the boy do. I think she’s using these tasks as an excuse to keep Aled here until the Huntsman loses his patience and moves on.

Or I just overanalyzed the living sh*t out of this comic, either way… Can’t wait to see which it is.
