8 of Swords

8_of_swords

Here’s my submission for the Webcomics Tarot Project organised by Sen, creator of the webcomic Millennium. Check out the link, there’s a lot of good stuff by many fine webcomic artists.

Love what you did with it. I’ve been reading Dark places since probably the third or fourth page, so I’ll take this opportunity to also congratulate you an excellent job all-round.

Thank you for your comment, and for following the comic. :D I’m getting a bit more confident about this webcomic thing, and I hope it shows. :)

Whoa. I’m quite struck by this piece. The moodiness and style of this card is really effective and powerful. I believe it conveys the meaning of the 8 of swords card quite well. I like how you took the traditional imagery of the card and made it your own.

I realize you signed on to this as part of a webcomic project, but I wouldn’t mind seeing you do more tarot-inspired pieces like this.

Thank you very much. :) And yeah, of the cards with slots open I felt this one better fit with the general tone of my strip, so it was a good match. The alternative was Strength, and I don’t know that I could have got the imagery to work as well. The “immobilised by fears” aspect of the 8 of Swords is very appropriate for Evan.

If time permits I’ll probably have a go at some other tarot-inspired images in the future, as each card has its layers of meaning and imagery which provide a useful foundation on which I can build, bringing my own interpretation. I’ll need to find some cards that suit the characters, though. Research required!

Ah, found your comic through the tarot art. Nice comic and loved the contribution.
